…try saying that after a few ;)
Before we go any further, let’s get one thing straight; I love any reason to shout about/celebrate our Dad. His Birthday, Father’s Day…even the “Is Rob Owen your Dad?!”, “YES HE IS!”, “Oh, I used to play football against/with him years back!”, {I knew that was coming} “TELL ME EVERYTHING!”.
So, when my sister called with a plan for his Birthday and Father’s Day, as one is a day after the other, of course I was in. The Plan; Mam, Dad and his favourite people {that will be me! Joking. Not really…just ask him. ;) } and a picnic across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.
We arrived at Llangollen Wharf just in time to board our canal boat {typical Edwards style}. Luckily for us, as there was 9 of us in our group, the lovely people there had reserved two tables for us, so we were all sat together. Alf’s face in the next photograph will show you just how chuffed the kids were about this…
I won’t show you ours…but the wine might have come out a little bit earlier than expected. ;)
You see, e v e r y o n e just wants to sit next to Taid!
There is a bar on board where snacks are available too but you can also take your own picnic and drinks along with you.
The 2hr motorised boat Trip takes you along a five mile stretch of the Llangollen Canal World Heritage site which runs along the picturesque Dee Valley including a crossing of the world famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
Thomas Telford is fully weatherproof complete with informative live commentary on board throughout the trip. As well as the opportunity to sit up top and see that little bit more. And to wave and shout hello to all the passers by too, of course.
What a view from the top of the Aqueduct!
I’m not sure what’s going on here…but does it matter?! Look at that freckle face. {insert all the heart-eye emoji’s here}. And yes, he’s managed to grab the seat next to Taid by this point.
The lovely lady on board threw some food out for the ducks so that they would come closer…but no way was Owen putting his fingers anywhere near them!
You can hire your very own self drive boat for a day…I don’t know if this excites me or terrifies me…but, what a laugh that would be!
There’s 2 missing, but here’s Dad with his favourites {apart from me}, in his happy place. The 2 hour trip we did takes you to Froncysyllte where there is a bus waiting to take you back to Llangollen, which is about ten minutes away. Ten minutes too long if you’re not into sing-songs on the bus…but sing did Owen.
Repeatedly. For the whole ten minutes. Not forgetting us all joining in for the “Penblwydd Hapus” bit.
Bloodyhell, I love those faces. Penblwydd Hapus, Dad.
Looks like a lovely trip — amazing view from the top of the Aqueduct!. I have a big soft spot for the flowers painted on canal boats.
You’d love it Gemma! x
This looks fab!!! I’ve just text my dad to see if he wants to go next week :)
Briliant! My work here is done. ;) Let me know if you do go and enjoy it! X
