During our walk up to Dinas Bran Castle in November, Chelsea and I decided that this should become a monthly thing. One month, I decide where we go and Chelsea the following month and so on. Saying that, I can’t quite remember who chose this walk but hey! it happened and that’s what matters, right?! I was genuinely looking forward to this as I knew it was going to be not only us heading outside and up into the mountains with the most stunning scenenry but also a walk full of chit chat; blogs and blogging itself, photography, online stuff, family, outdoorsy stuff…I think it’s fair to say we didn’t stop talking until I dropped her off outside her home.
The drive to Chelsea’s house was a bit hairy…it decided to snow again on Sunday morning and it was pretty white along the tops by the time I got there…I seem to remember even Alf and his mate saying something like “Where is she taking us?!” to each other. Ha!
“Pistyll Rhaeadr is an enchanting waterfall in the Berwyn Mountains, just inside Wales, west of Oswestry and Shrewsbury.
At 240ft (80m) high it is the UK tallest single drop waterfall. This much-loved waterfall captivating all who visit her. People have returned, generation after generation to take in the spirit and presence of this Special place.”
We decided to head up to the top of the Waterfall first, have a good walk around and then head back down to get some pics of the Waterfall itself, before heading for hot chocolate at the cafe. {This plan also helped with motivation for the kids ;) , hot chocolate never fails!}. So off {and up!} we went…
It wasn’t until I was about to share this photo on instagram that I spotted Rolly doing a handstand and taking a pee…
Without realising…{or was it because the bois were ahead of us and were taking us on their own version of the walk?!}, we actually ended up taking the short cut route up to the top.
The path was a bit on the slippy side with all of the slush that was on it, so extra care was needed.
But once we got to the top it was a massive play area for the bois…where giggles could be heard and a few snowballs were dodged. And for a very, very brief spell, there was blue sky!
Before we headed over the style towards the top of the Waterfall, we decided to keep on the track we were on to see where it was headed. We saw so many paths heading off in numberous directions, I can see more walks this way being planned.
It was so pretty and peaceful at the top. We all headed off in different directions to see what we could find.
…but it wasn’t long before we were having to dodge some more snowballs!
We spotted one man who tried to jump across one bit but ended up knee deep in a bog! Of course, the boys made sure he knew that they were laughing at him…!
After a brief stop at the top and not letting the bois anywhere near the edge, it was time to head back down for…
“Don’t forget about our Hot Chocolates, Mam!”…yeah, those!
Like I said on instagram, I don’t think any photo will ever do it justice, it’s just one that has to be seen in person.
It even managed to stop these two in their tracks…for a minute at least ;)
And, I quote Alfie Lowe, “Finally!”, it was time to head to the cafe for a hot drink.
Thanks for your company, Chelsea! See you next month!

Helping me to keep warm and dry on this walk; this jacket and this hat.
Awww I loved reading that it was exactly how you described it!!! I can’t wait for further adventures. It’s a perfect combination of outdoor and girl time. I was expecting a few Welsh language mic takes eh eh ;)
Until next time! Xxx
I’ve got another one to add to the list – Blue Lagoon, Fairbourne – family of mine were up there at the weekend, it looks ace!
I just googled it looks AMAZING! One for early Spring??
What a great place to go for a walk, beautiful!
