I saw this advertised on facebook and I’m not going to lie, the thought of winning a fujifilm instax camera was very appealing. When I saw that it was the same weekend as Paul was on shift, I envisioned Alf dragging his feet along the floor, complaining about “another photo?!” and multiple “can we go home yet?!” ‘s and thought better of it.
Fast forward to the very Sunday it was on, with an hour to get myself ready and get there, I decided I was going to give it a go and see what a photo marathon was all about. Alf or no Alf.
It turned out, No Alf. {Diolch Nain & Taid!} But I did have Ella with me. And she was on crutches…You win some, you lose some. ;)
We rocked up at Ruthin Craft Centre to find a queue of people waiting to sign up…ten minutes later, having signed up ourselves, been given instructions and had our photo taken with THE fujifilm instax, we were off.
What’s a photo marathon? “A photomarathon is a photography competition in which participants must take a series of photographs on predetermined subjects in a set period of time, typically 12 to 24 hours”. With this one being a mini photo marathon, we had 4 hours.
We were given 5 different subjects; Personality / Green Link / Future / Home and Heart and we had until 2pm that afternoon to get back to the centre…and until midnight to upload and send our chosen photos.
Obviously we made our way up to the Castle.
The peacocks were out in force that day, doing their thing. This one here wasn’t much of a fan of having his photo taken and started making his way over to us at one point, at a bit of a pace too…it was at this point that Ella decided to do a runner…red faced and with her crutches in the air!
One thing I loved about the photo marathon was all the little alleyways and nooks we didn’t know about. It was great to discover Ruthin on foot and getting to roam about…instead of the usual rushed food shop at the supermarket! Sounds silly, but I also loved just being able to take photographs with confidence and not worry about what others thought as there were so many other people and families taking part. (I do it…all the time…I always stop if there’s someone approaching in case they’re thinking “what the hell is she taking a photo of here?”…silly I know, but…I do…}.
Armed with hot chocolates and cake, we headed back to the craft centre to “finish” our marathon and to decide on which, out of the many, {many} photos we took, we were going to upload as our final few. Here’s what we decided on;

We didn’t win…
BUT! We got to discover and learn a bit about Ruthin and got chased by a Peacock! What more do you want from a Sunday Morning stroll?! ;)
The Rhuthun mini-photo marathon was hosted by Ruthin Seasons. For more information on events etc coming up, see their website HERE.
