4 Ways to Prepare for a Newborn Shoot

Every parent has a birth story that they love to share with friends, family, and even strangers. It’s part of celebrating becoming a parent, and it helps them be proud of their child, no matter how old they are. Another way to celebrate your baby is with a newborn photo shoot. As much as DIY snaps are great for capturing candid and intimate moments, {I had a go and they were hilarious…poor Maisie! ha!}, but professional photos offer something different in their own special way. If you want to know how to prepare for a newborn photoshoot, you’ve come to the right place.

Book It Early

It should be no surprise that newborn photoshoots are in high demand, especially right now as parents and businesses try to catch up on everything they’ve missed. Because of this, you need to book it as early as you can.

The experts recommend doing this as early as your second trimester, and while this might seem very soon it means you won’t be disappointed when your preferred photographer is all booked up for the rest of the year and beyond.

Plan Their Outfit

It’s safe to say that babies look cute no matter what they’re wearing, but this doesn’t mean you can throw anything on them before the photo shoot. Planning their outfit by looking at toddler dresses or a cute shirt and tie for boys will make them look like a million pounds and give your pictures an elegant style.

Of course, you may prefer something more natural, and that’s okay too, especially if you and your partner want to be part of the photoshoot.

Research The Best Photographers

You want the best photographer to take the best picture, but the best photographer may not match the aesthetic you’re looking for. Because of this, it’s important to research photographers that specialise in the theme or style you prefer.

If you want artsy black-and-white photographs, don’t opt for a photographer known for vivid and vibrant colours. This applies the opposite way, too. If you have a vision in your mind about what you want the photos to look like, you’ll be happier once you find a photographer that knows how to achieve this.

Know What You’ll Do With the Photos

Knowing what you’ll do with the photos once they arrive is something not everyone thinks about. They don’t consider how they will display them, or how they will organise them and give them to family members to display at their houses.

While you may not use every photo, you should have an idea of how you’re going to hang them around the house. Of course, you don’t need to hang them, either. Putting them in an album of newborn memories is also a good idea, as it gives you something to look back on in five, ten, or eighteen years’ time.

Smile For the Camera

Okay, so your baby may not understand what a smile means right now, but that doesn’t mean they won’t babble and giggle with a lens pointed at them. Newborn photoshoots are a fantastic way to capture your child’s first few weeks and months, and whether you keep them to yourself or send them out as gifts to your family, you’ll have something special to look back on.
