Shrewsbury Photo Marathon

Throwback to a couple of weeks back, where I entered the Shrewsbury Photo Marathon…with a promise of pizza, wine and a catch up with family later on. Yes please, Diolch yn fawr iawn. A Iechyd Da!

I woke up that morning to the sound of the rain lashing down and immediately was like “I’m not going anywhere in THAT!”…fast forward to a couple of hours later and it was drying up at home…fast forward a couple of hours again and we had arrived at Shrewsbury to blue skyes!

What is a photo marathon?

A photomarathon is a photography competition in which participants must take a series of photographs on predetermined subjects in a set period of time, typically 12 to 24 hours

This one was only 6 hours – plenty of time to do some exploring!

What i love about these Photo Marathons (I’ve done one in Ruthin, too) not only does it push me with my photos and how to interpret the subject but it also makes me discover parts of the town I wouldn’t normally see. We walked up, down and around all the cobbled streets just taking it all in at a nice leisurely pace…with a couple of coffee stops. Perfect. Those cobbled streets were also great for getting Maisie to finally nod off…sure she had one of her best naps ever.

After a few hours of walking around with the photo subjects on repeat in my head…i’m pretty sure I could repeat them all to you still today …I can’t stress just how much of a lovely way to discover somewhere these photo comps are.

With one subject being “People” and a Steampunk Festival happening at St Mary’s Church the same day, it seemed like too good an opportunity to miss out on, and we headed there to find out what that was all about. Turns out, a pram and a lot of people inside a very pretty Church does not make for a relaxing experience…so we headed out after getting some pics…and a mental note of leaving the pram outside next time!

After a few hours of exploring, clicking away and a very patient Maisie, it was only fair that I followed through with my promise of lunch and a trip to the park.

A big shout out to Alf for entertaining Maisie too, bless him.

Thanks for a lovely afternoon, Shrewsbury! Til next time…
